Usk Castle

Enchanting, romantic ruins overlook the small town of Usk, and the wide river valley beyond. “It is like the secret castle that no one’s ever found” exclaimed a young boy, seeing the natural and peaceful setting, the ancient walls covered with creeper, and old stone towers inviting the visitor to explore. This is a medieval castle that fell into disuse 500 years ago, waiting to be discovered.
Usk castle is open almost every day, during reasonable daylight hours.
Address: Monmouth Road, Usk, Monmouthshire, NP15 1SD (5 mins walk from Twyn Square but also free car park - follow the signs opposite Usk Fire station, on Monmouth road)
Usk Open Gardens weekend

The gardens of the town of Usk will be opened to visitors on the weekend of the 27th & 28th of June 2009, to raise money for local charities and good causes. This is the events 15th year and the organisers are hoping for a bumper weekend. which has previoulsy achieved phenomenal success in recent years with its Open Gardens Weekend. From very small beginnings, the weekend, always held at the end of June, now attracts well over 3,000 visitors – more than the population of the whole town, – who view 20 or more gardens.

Usk Castle Players

Who are we?
It all started in 2005 with an idea to create a sound and light show at Usk Castle, to commemorate the Battle of Pwll Melyn in 1405 and to promote awareness of Usk Castle and it's historical importance.
The Usk Castle Pageant amateur dramatic group was formed and the resulting spectacular performance of 'Battle & Banquet' presented in the "son et lumiere" style, drew crowds from far and wide. Such was the success of "Battle & Banquet", the decision was taken to continue with an annual outdoor drama performance at Usk Castle.
Several successful productions have taken place since 2005 - you can read more about these and view photographs under productions.
In 2010 the decision was taken to re-name the 'Usk Castle Pageant amateur dramatic group as 'Usk Castle Players' to better reflect the current performance style.
Our Summer 2010 production 'Bonjour Bonjour' is a saucy, light hearted, wartime comedy with music, which places Usk Castle at the centre of both German invasion and Welsh resistance activity.
Performances: 9th July, 10th July, 11th July
Tickets will be available mid June - Come back soon for more information!
