A Future Strategy for Usk

A few years ago Usk Chamber of Commerce started the groundwork on developing a long term Strategic Plan for the Town. This involved a questionnaire that was sent to every household in the Town to discover the views of Usk residents on a wide range of topics. This data was analysed and formulated into a report, the Usk Strategy Document, which as a piece of research sets out what was important to the Usk community as whole and it was hoped that this would lead to a ten year plan being written to signpost the way ahead for the development of the Town. In June 2008, this document was presented  to Usk Town Council   when the opportunities that it might present were presented and it was agreed that it should be adopted and developed.

There are many uses of such a strategy. Grants and community funding applications normally ask for proof of community need, and desire, and a plan based on this data can often pre-empt the need for lengthy consultation. It inevitably leads to joined up thinking across the many and wonderful community groups in Usk that can only prove to be mutually beneficial.

The next step was this week taken where as many local organisations were invited to become part of this strategy group, to help shape and form opinion and policy towards the development of the Town plan.

A meeting of interested parties was chaired by Cllr Tony Kear on Tuesday 2nd June 2009, at The Sessions House, Usk.  A brief presentation was made on the Usk Strategy Plan, and an informal discussion led to an agreement to meet again on June 16 th at 6.30pm to formulate a "SWOT" analysis of Usk.

A new  Usk Strategy Group is to be formed then and we urge any one who wishes to contribute to attend the meeting at The Sessions House or emial, either Cllr This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
