Record numbers at Usk Show - send in your pictures and comments
Organisers welcomed a record breaking 25,000 people (up 28% on the previous record) to Usk Show last Saturday.Making up for last year’s disappointment, when the Show field was underwater resulting in cancellation, the crowds were entertained by many activities including: Homecraft and Horticultural Displays, Vintage and Steam exhibits, small animals and pets, hundreds of local Traders outside and in the Food Hall, and entertainment of every kind for the children.
Entries to the show were up in almost all sections, and there were excellent entries in the sheep, beef and dairy cattle, and goats. The Countryside arena is becoming increasingly popular and this year displays from local Gundog and Falconry Clubs, shire horses and working vintage machinery proved very popular. The Rural Crafts Tent displayed many forgotten skills and a demonstration (and tasting) of cider making!
Gerry Hawkins (Chairman) said “Usk Show is run by volunteers working together from the country and town communities to put on this really excellent agricultural show.
We must apologise for the problems with traffic which some people experienced, we are already working with the Police to address these problems in preparation for next year.
We hope that everyone had a good day out and we look forward to seeing you next year.”
Usk's Mayor Cllr Roger Galletley said who attended the event in an official capacity, " This now must be regarded as the Premier Show in Wales. It was wonderful to see so many people there - old and young and from outside the County. It was a real pleasure to be there and demonstrates again what makes Usk such a special place"
