Official launch of www.usktown.co.uk
On Monday 16th November at 6.30 in the Sessions House, The Mayor of Usk, Cllr Roger Galletley will formally launch Usk's new web site. Web designer, Phil Terrett of the Third Stage, an Usk based company, will give a short presentation on the new site's capabilities prior to light refreshments. The Business Community of Usk and also the voluntary organisations have been invited.
Ahead of the launch, Cllr Galletley said:-
"Usk has come a long way since the Town Council came into being in 1974 following local government reorganisation. The old Urban District Council became part of history and the new Town Council started with one small office, housed in the White House in Old Market Street, and a second hand typewriter left behind by the former clerk to the UDC - I am not joking!
We have, since then, made huge strides to keep pace with the way Local Government now works and that, of course, means information technology. This new website has evolved as a result of many months of hard work by a lot of individuals to whom we owe a huge debt of gratitude.
Internet technology is now a very important part of the modern way of life and undertaking business transactions. It is vital for the future of Usk, that we do everything we can to promote to everyone looking in at this wonderful Town, for what we know it to be; a great place to live, to work and to visit and enjoy.
So here we are in the 21st century conducting our business in a way that our first Town Clerk, Emrys Morgan MBE, would never have dreamed possible. I hope that all of those who make contact with us and the town as a whole, through the website, will appreciate and enjoy it as much as we have in creating it"
Phil Terrett, Chief Executive of The Third Stage said:-
“It’s been a delight to work with Usk Town Council. The opportunity to produce a site that is easy to navigate for its visitors and easy to update for its users was unmissable. We have been able to achieve those goals with the help and continued dialogue of the Town Council. As a result of this cooperation, w have added many extra features to turn the site into a true, first choice Town Portal such as emergency text alerts, a gallery that you can submit to via email or mobile phone and a detailed town event diary. The ultimate aim is to promote Usk, its businesses, to attract more visitors to Usk and to give a first class service to the people of the town. We are delighted to have been a part of this project.”
