Sessions House launch for Town website

Prior to introducing the website designer, Phil Terrett of Usk based business - The Third Stage - Cllr Galletley emphasised the need for Usk to be part of the 21st century information technology revolution in promoting the Town, its businesses and facilities to Usk residents and the members of the public thinking of moving to the area. Usk Town Council’s website Committee had led the changes and Frank Evans was thanked for his work over many years on the old site as was local renowned artist, Anne Leaver, for allowing her work to be published on the various sections of the new site.
Phil Terrett gave a comprehensive demonstration of the capabilities of the site highlighting its simplicity and ease to “click though” the pages which include:-
“Where to eat and stay”, “Things to do and see”, “Businesses in Usk “, “Usk Sport” as well as a section for Usk Town Council. The need for, and provision of, a central calendar for the Town to aid planning of events in Usk was greeted positively. The ability to email photographs of the Town (suitably moderated!) was viewed as a fantastic opportunity to showcase Usk and its wonderful attributes that makes it such a popular tourist attraction. The recently added “Town Text Service”, where subscribers can receive (free of charge) news and details of events in the Town is a key modern information giving service highlighted the Council’s desire to communicate with everyone through every media possible.

Commenting after the event, Cllr Galletley said:-
“This new website has evolved as a result of many months of hard work by a lot of individuals to whom we owe a huge debt of gratitude. I hope all that everyone in Usk and its business community will take on board and contribute to the success of this new initiative. This is so vital in today’s internet age and will undoubtedly help promote what we all know Usk to be –a great place to live, work and visit -
Phil Terrett added
“It’s been a delight to work with Usk Town Council. The opportunity to produce a site that is easy to navigate for its visitors and easy to update for its users was unmissable. We have been able to achieve those goals with the help and continued dialogue of the Town Council. As a result of this cooperation, w have added many extra features to turn the site into a true, first choice Town Portal such as emergency text alerts, a gallery that you can submit to via email or mobile phone and a detailed town event diary. The ultimate aim is to promote Usk, its businesses, to attract more visitors to Usk and to give a first class service to the people of the town. We are delighted to have been a part of this project.”
As a final part to the evening the Winner of the bottle of champagne for registering with the Town Text service was announced as long serving WI member Anne Webster.
