Burrium Gate Section 106 Funding announced

 

Monmouthshire County Council has announced the beneficiaries of the adult recreation funding available from the Burrium Gate development at Castle Oak.


Barratt Homes Limited, the developers of land at Castle Oak, known as Burrium Gate entered into a Section 106 Agreement on 30th August 2007 with Monmouthshire County Council , as part of the planning agreement, to provide adult recreation funding of £300,150 “to be used primarily in the Usk Area for adult and youth  recreational purposes”.   The area of benefit was agreed , in consultation with Usk Town Council, as being the town of Usk plus the part of LLanbadoc situated between the former railway embankment at the Usk "Island site” and LLanbadoc Church.


Applications were invited from local organisations for grants from this fund towards the cost of local projects in the area of benefit.  20 applications were received, although one was withdrawn due to the time delay between the original request for submissions and the assessment process. The total amount of grants requested was £445, 839 against the total fund of available of £300,150.

 
A panel was set up to assess the applications received to make recommendations as to how the funding should be allocated. The panel consisted of the Local County Councillor Brian Strong, Usk Town Councillor Tony Kear, independent officers representing Area Management, Dale Roberts  and Supporting Community Enterprise, Richard Lewis plus the Leisure and Recreation Manager form Monmouthshire County Council, Mike Moran.

Grant awards

The beneficiaries will be notified in the week commencing 22nd February. Monies will be available from 1st April 2010.
