David Davies MP addresses the Public Meeting

On Friday 23rd June over 100 local residents and business owners packed the Court Room at The Sessions House Usk, to hear Usk Town Council give a positive progress report on easing the serious problems and concerns about the increasing volume of HGV's illegally using Usk as a short cut and also the air pollution problem in Bridge Street. The meeting was chaired by the Mayor of Usk Councillor Alec Leathwood and a detailed presentation given by Cllr Tony Kear who chairs the Council's Traffic and HGv sub committee.
Local MP David Davies also spoke and praised the Town Council on this dogged and unrelenting approach to the issue that is blighting Usk and detracting visitors and townsfolk from using the shops in the main street. The public were then able to grill Councillors on their various concerns. The Mayor invited local residents to volunteer for the planned Lorry Watch scheme which has proved very successful in Gloucestershire and over 30 did so".
A further public meeting will be planned at which Superintendent David Johnson from Gwent Police has agreed to attend.  Superintendent Johnson Chairs  the problem solving group of relevant parties - MCC, Police, Environmental health, trading standards and Usk Town Council )
