news HGV

The Town Council continue their efforts to address the HGV poblems in the town, both with the M.C.C. and the Police.

Since 2008 there has been some progress. CTV cameras have been installed on the bridge and weight restriction and sat nav signs erected at all approaches to the town, including the A449. Illuminated speed limit lights have also been provided by the school on Monmouth Road.

There remain many outstanding issues. As a result of our recommendations, M.C.C. commissioned an independent study by Jacobs, a draft copy of which we have now received. The study failed to address all the issues and, at our insistence, it has been agreed that the study will be extended. Both the Cabinet Member and the Head of Services for M.C.C. support that request. We have asked for a time limit on it's completion.

A series of measures have been suggested such as traffic calmers to deter large lorries and a change to Road Traffic Orders.

We, as a Town Council are determined to see this through, despite the slow progress.
