Usk Gliding Club

                  Picture of Usk Gliding Club

We are a small friendly club enjoying some of the best conditions and scenary in the Country. Although small, we are a well established Club - we've been gliding in Usk for over 25 years. We own our own field and our equipment has recently been upgraded with the help of a Sportlot Grant. Generally we operate Club flying at the weekends throughout the year and group trial lessons 2 evenings a week during the summer. However, on a good soaring day during the week, you will probably find a launch is available

Fishing in Usk

The Usk is arguably the best freestone trout river in the country. Wild brown trout are distributed throughout the system although the most aesthetic main stem fishing is upstream of the town of Usk, with many of the tributaries also offering superb sport. Early season is the best time of year for daytime fishing with the Large dark olive hatches making the Usk spring fishing justifiably world famous. In high summer, when flows drop and water temperatures rise, the fishing becomes largely confined to the early mornings and evenings. The trout are not uncatchable during the low water months but anglers must adapt their tactics as it is often not until after sunset that the bigger fish start to move. In high summer the dusk sedge fishing can be exhilarating as those 2 and 3lb browns from the spring are still there to be caught

There are numerous fantastic opportunities for fishing in the Usk area. The river Usk runs right though the centre of the Town and together with the Wye are excellent game fishing rivers.  Close by are Llandegfedd and Wentwood Reservoirs and are both excellent, premier still water fisheries.

Permits for game fishing on different sections of the River Usk, including Clytha Fishery (0.75 miles of fishing on the River Usk between Abergavenny and Usk) and Usk Town waters (fly only) can be purchased from Sweets Fishing Tackle.
